Overview
Plato Systems is an AI-powered manufacturing platform that combines computer vision, operational data, and machine learning to help manufacturers improve production quality and operational efficiency.
Over more than a year, I collaborated closely with Product and Engineering to design and evolve the platform across multiple product areas, supporting operators, supervisors, and plant managers.
My role
As the sole Product Designer, I led the design of multiple areas of the platform, including operational dashboards, event investigation, case management, AI-powered insights, reporting, mobile experiences, and the company website. Working closely with Product and Engineering, I translated complex manufacturing workflows into intuitive enterprise experiences.
From improving the product to rethinking it
When I joined the project, my initial focus was on improving the existing product experience by redesigning operational dashboards, event investigation workflows, video review, and the case management system.
As part of the collaboration, I visited multiple manufacturing facilities where Plato was deployed, observing operators, supervisors, and plant managers, conducting interviews, and mapping their workflows to better understand how production issues were detected and resolved.
These visits revealed an important opportunity: operators didn't just need better tools to investigate incidents after they occurred. They needed to know the moment something unexpected happened so they could act immediately.
This insight helped shift the product from a retrospective analysis platform toward a proactive operational assistant, introducing real-time alerts for unplanned production stops and enabling teams to respond before small issues became larger problems.
Outcome
This new direction influenced the evolution of the platform across dashboards, incident management, AI-powered insights, video review, reporting, and mobile experiences. We managed to help manufacturing teams detect issues earlier, reduce response times, and make faster operational decisions using real-time, AI-powered insights.
